Camp Springs is a town located in Prince George's County, Maryland. According to the Census Bureau, as of 2007, the town had a total population of 18,628 (up by about 1,500 from 2000).

Geography:
Camp Springs is located at 38°48'27" North, 76°55'5" West (38.807463, -76.918028)
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 7.3 mi. None of it is covered by water. (More at Definition of Area)

Demographics:
As of the census of 2000, there are 6,210 households and 4,831 families residing in the town. The population density is 2,475.9/mi. There are 6,494 housing units at an average density of 894.8/mi. The racial makeup of the town is 20.07% White, 74.28% African American, 0.40% Native American, 2.33% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 1.07% from other races, and 1.79% from two or more races. 2.44% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 6,210 households out of which 32.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.7% are married couples living together, 17.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.2% are non-families. 18.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.89 and the average family size is 3.24.

In the town the population is spread out with 25.4% under the age of 18, 7.0% from 18 to 24, 27.3% from 25 to 44, 28.9% from 45 to 64, and 11.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 92.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.6 males.

The estimated median income for a household in the town in 2008 is $90,601 (up from $69,371 in 2000 and higher than the Maryland estimate median income of $70,545). The estimated median house or condo value in 2008 was $379,881, though the current average may be lower in the 2010 census due to the recession.

Geographical Area, Government, & Streets

Camp Springs spans 4 zip code areas and several different legislative districts. The northeast quadrant has a Suitland zip code (20746). The northwest and southwest belong to the Hillcrest Heights/Marlow Heights, Temple Hills or Ft. Washington post offices (20748, 20757, 20744). The southeast quadrant used to be taken up almost entirely by Andrews Air Force Base (formerly Camp Springs Army Air Field), which is now Joint Base Andrews and has its own zip code.

The northern and central sections are in Police District IV and the southern portion (south of Allentown Rd.) is in Police District V. It's also in 2 county council districts: District 9 and District 8, 2 state legislative districts: District 26 and District 27 (County Legislators by District), and Congressional District 4 and District 5 (Maryland Manual with maps). It is not a municipality, so there is no mayor or local government.
